Photon Energy Wins Tender For 3 MWp Hybrid Solar Power Plant in Australia

Photon Energy N.V. (WSE: PEN, the ‘Group’ or ‘Company’) announces that Photon Energy Engineering Australia Pty Ltd. – theGroup’s Sydney-based subsidiary dedicated to engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services – has been awarded acontract to deliver a 3 MWp power plant in Wodonga, Victoria.

The contract was awarded following a competitive tender processrun by utility company North East Water (NEW), owner and operatorof the Wodonga Wastewater Treatment Plant. NEW provides water andsewage services to 39 towns and cities across north-east Victoria, serving 39,000 people in Wodonga alone.

‘Winning this tender is a significant milestone and togetherwith our success on the Lord Howe Island project is a testimony to our capabilities. We look forward to embarking on similar or more complex projects in the near future that will help Australia reduceits dependence on fossil fuels,‘ said Michael Gartner, CTO of theGroup and Managing Director of Photon Energy Australia.

Photon Energy will act as principal contractor in the design, construction, and commissioning of the system, and will subcontractthe electrical installation and HV upgrade works component to localcontractor Watters Electrical and supplier Wilson’s Transformers. Boschetti Industries will act as the consulting engineers onautomation and electrical matters.

Adjacent to the Wodonga Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) on OldBarnawartha Rd, West Wodonga, the project will comprise a 3 MWpground-mounted solar system and associated infrastructure, withhigh voltage (HV) upgrade works and off-grid capabilities.

The WWTP is a complex project with many engineering challengesincorporating a capacity of 3 MWp of solar PV, with existing dieselgeneration enabling waste water treatment to continue in the eventthat the facility is islanded off-grid. The breakdown of work to bedone includes elements of solar array, high voltage reticulation, systems integration and SCADA, as well as civil, structural andmechanical works.

The project is expected to deliver significant benefits tocommunities in the region, both through the reduction of grid-drawnpower consumption to the Waste Water Treatment Plant site and viathe significant economic stimulus to the Victorian and regionaleconomies.

The tendered contract value is AUD 7.284 million. The project iscurrently in the contract-finalisation phase, with constructionexpected to commence in the coming months.

The evolving situation with COVID-19 is being carefullymonitored and necessary steps will be implemented to ensure thesafety of all personnel during project delivery.
